Moving onto the questions!

1. Have you ever been pressured to do something that ended up having a positive effect?

I haven’t technically been pressured to do anything but I have been persuaded to go to certain gatherings and meet people. Most end up catastrophic but yes, some end up with positive outcomes, not a positive effect. I like it when the people I’m around ask me questions other than ‘How is school?’ or say “I haven’t seen you in so long! Remember me?‘ An event where that doesn’t happen is a very positive day.

2. How do you combat pressure?

I think it depends on the type of pressure and I owe all my treasure trove of pressure to school. So, I either complete the school work that’s weighing me down or if I have time to spare, I write, read, draw or listen to music.

3. If your friend was being pressured into something, how would you help them?

This is such a vague question. It depends on what they are being pressured into and by whom? Considering the present, I don’t have a lot of friends and the few I have are very easy going people and don’t seem to be under pressure. The only pressure that’s weighing us down is school, and that is something most students live with and have their own way of dealing with. If the friend in question was having a hard time learning a new concept or something, I would help them understand it.

4. Now, how do you think a person should combat pressure?

Again, I really think it depends on the person. Some find talking very liberating and it’s their way of easing pressure off their lives. Others like taking a break from life and spending a whole day indulged in hobbies and me time. And yet others find comfort in certain forms of art like singing or writing. I think all forms are good as long as they don’t harm the person and those around them.

5. If you could change one choice you made from being pressured into something, what would it be?

Haha, in most cases, it’s me who’s pressuring myself. The last choice I pressured myself into was sending a poem (a terrible one, but I secretly like it now because it has a fun memory attached to it) to a literary journal. I don’t know why I did it, I was feeling very reckless and it was 1 am. I posted it here when the same recklessness graced me with its presence! (The journal rejected it, obviously)

6. What do you think is the worst type of pressure a person could face? Any type of pressure qualifies!

The pressure to meet expectations. I’m not saying it’s completely bad but it seems to be more powerful in hurting people than other types of pressure.

7. Have you ever felt pressure while blogging?

Haha, no! I was writing before I started blogging, so I don’t feel too pressured to sit down or have no need to force myself to write something for this blog alone. I have never done that and hope I don’t, because that kills what writing means to me. Scheduling posts help too. Now that I’m in grade 12, I don’t spend as much time on my blog as I used to and scheduling posts helps Random Specific Thoughts stay active and on schedule.

But a long hiatus is on it’s way sadly.

8. This is kind of an open-ended question- do you think peer pressure is good or bad?

Both. It’s bad when people start hating themselves because they’re different from their peers. It’s good when it makes a person competitive (in a good way) and motivates them to work harder. I’ve been on both ends and I feel like one makes up for the other.

9. Song and book recommendations:

10. (Random Question)
Will you think about tagging me for another tag(say yes for brownie points!)?
Also, what do you think about pineapple on pizza?

(I believe I already have!)
I haven’t tried it. I’m not very fond of food and usually refrain from trying out new food combinations. I’m sorry but I think pineapple on pizza sounds wrong.

  1. Cool tag! I think sometimes peer pressure can be good, but sadly a majority of the time it isn’t.

  3. The pressure of life can be overwhelming at any age, but being a senior in your final semester can be especially stressful. Your responses here, and managing school and a blog demonstrate your ability to manage pressures. Best wishes during your hiatus. 🌞

  5. I agree. Pineapple on pizza is wrong. But if someone really likes it, I’m not going to stop them. You do you.

I know the feeling of pressuring myself. That’s how it was when I was in school.

The question about being pressured with a positive effect… that’s really interesting. The first thing that comes to mind happened when I was 13. I’ve mentioned in my blog before that I liked a girl named Rachelle that year, and our friend Paul found out and told everyone, even at least one teacher knew, and I was embarrassed… But a few months later, there was a trip for students who made honor roll all year, to an amusement park nearby. My mom put it in my mind from a young age that roller coasters were scary, because my mom doesn’t like roller coasters. This park has an old historic roller coaster built in the 1920s, I think. It goes pretty fast with lots of ups and downs, but it doesn’t go upside down because it’s made of wood and you can’t really do that. So on that day, I was hanging out with friends who kept trying to get me to go on that roller coaster, but I kept saying no, I’m afraid of roller coasters. Finally Paul said that Rachelle said that I could sit next to her if I went on the roller coaster with them. So I did… and I loved it… and Rachelle and Paul and everyone else went off and did their own thing for the rest of the day, and I just kept riding that roller coaster until the park closed, about six more times. So if I hadn’t been pressured to go on the roller coaster, I never would have discovered how much I love roller coasters.

  6. In light of this tag, I’m going to peer pressure you into eating pineapple pizza.
Next time you have the choice, you HAVE to try pineapple pizza. Here’s the thing, there is no wrong thing to put on pizza. It’s your choice. But since a lot of people like pineapple pizza, it’s not really that weird. It’s like Olives or Sausages. You can eat olives on your spaghetti, and sausage on your in your casserole, but also on pizza. Same with pineapple.
So really, it’s not that weird. It’s really good actually. I like it. It adds that little kick of flavor to the pizza.
Try it sometime, you’ll be surprised!

  11. This was enlightening! I never thought of peer pressure as something positive. What you’ve written here is true, it can be good and bad; it just depends on what kind of pressure it is.

  12. Aw..haha! I think it’s mostly because I’m not very keen on food in general, so I usually stay away from novel combinations and recipes. I’d survive on bread alone if I was allowed 😂
I absolutely wouldn’t judge anyone for liking that! I’m glad you like it too! I can’t promise you but I might just end up doing that if I feel reckless enough 😂 I sure hope it will!
Thank you so much for reading! Do you mind if I tag you too?

  13. I agree! As a friend just pointed out below, there’s no wrong thing to put on pizza, just different preferences.

Ahh, yeah, it’s not the best but it does get things done; so.itsy effective in a sense.

Oof, that must have been hard at 13. Wow, a rollercoaster built in the 1920s sounds incredible and scary at the same time. Aw.. I’m glad your friends managed to get you on it! That’s a lovely experience! Thank you so much for sharing!

  15. Yeah… I know… if I’m going to have unhealthy coping mechanisms to deal with my feelings of inadequacy and low-self esteem, pushing myself to excel in school is a much better unhealthy coping mechanism than, say, drugs.

  17. That’s good. It’s not good to work yourself so hard that you’re miserable, especially when that isn’t accompanied by a specific goal. Nor should one’s identity be completely wrapped up in school success. But there are a lot of great reasons to make the effort to do well in school.

  27. Got it! It’s good to keep your options open, you don’t have to decide right away, although I know the earlier to do decide, the easier it is to make plans and be done on time. I had a lot of people ask me when I was your age why I didn’t study engineering… honestly I think it’s because I grew up very sheltered in the kind of place that doesn’t really have a lot of high paying jobs, and I didn’t really know what engineering was :\

I’m so grateful for the Internet. But a lot of people pursue Engineering here so it wasn’t totay unheard of anyway.
I’m not the best at Maths or Science 😂 but Engineering seems fascinating (certain fields). Oh well, let’s see how it all turns out!🤦😂

I simply loved how you made it VERY clear that all the pressure in your life stems from school 😂

…and thank you so so much, D, for tagging me. Coming from a writer as introspective as you, it means a lot. So THANK YOUU!!✨

  34. This is a great topic. The most serious pressuring is when someone or a group attempts to challenge your boundaries. To hear “no” feels like rejection for some people, particularly the immature. “No” still needs to be said. Although uncomfortable, a challenge to your principles and values only becomes more intense if you go along with others. It is not my responsibility to make someone feel comfortable about my boundary setting. It is their immaturity that casues their discomfort, not my lack of explanation.

  52. Interesting tag! You’re so mature and I love it. I still fall prey to peer pressure and I’m nearly thirty… so I tend to avoid it by keeping a small circle and avoiding events that I know don’t go well with my values. My colleagues are all heavy drinkers and smokers, so that often means never joining them for much.

  53. It sure was! Aw.. thank you!😂💕 Oof, I don’t think it’s something that’s going to go away with age though. That’s a good strategy! But, I feel like we’re often thrust into a large circle of people for work purposes. Goodness, that’s not good. I’m glad you don’t join them much but I hope they abandon those habits soon.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read and share your thoughts!
