“Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.”
― Louisa May Alcott
these stares and unspoken thoughts –
a writhing pile of sheer loathing;
they taint this soft tapestry
with its numerous rips and
intricate embroideries whose contours
shout and wail of every dream
that faltered at the finish line.
rich and sweet is the glow that
embraces these failures of the past.
draped around a world where
dreaming is the norm; it
mends these infinite rips –
inviting fallen dreams to rest
until they can soar again.
“If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.”
― Henry David Thoreau, Walden

This was written in response to this week’s We’ave Written Weekly; W3 poetry prompt hosted by David @ The Skeptic’s Kaddish. This week’s prompt given by Sarah is to write a poem of 14 or fewer lines on the theme of dreams. Please feel free to join in! Submissions are open until Monday, January 16, 10:00 AM (GMT+3).
Thoughtfully yours,
D

This is marvelous! I especially like the imagery of “shout and wail of every dream/that faltered at the finish line.” Deepthy, I love that this is a poem of hope instead of desolation! I do have to correct one thing – I did not set this prompt. Sarah did – I was the week before!! ❤

A topic of endless consideration and a fair amount of mystery. I enjoyed the contrast you created between the two stanzas and your creative reflection with this topic. ✨

look. everytime i ever come on here, I’M OBVIOUSLY EXPECTING TO BE MINDBLOWN. but it’s slightly insane how YOU CROSS ALL THE EXPECTATIONS EVERY. SINGLE. TIME????? this is phenomenal stuff and i could read it over and over and over forever 🥺😭 ITS RIDICULOUSLY BEAUTIFUL LIKE THAT. also the entire idea is just?? I’M IN LOVE. also this: “intricate embroideries whose contours
shout and wail of every dream
that faltered at the finish line.” and this: “draped around a world where
dreaming is the norm;” AND THIS: “inviting fallen dreams to rest
until they can soar again.” IT’S SO BEAUTIFUL I’M CRYING
