Once blank pages
Now shelter stories
From far away lands.
I find myself lost
In that realm of uncertainty and dread
One never ventures out into.
Guided by the flickering light
At the end of the tunnel,
I drift through the pages
Bound by pride and love,
Of a pre-written fate
A life, left unlived.
Lost in fate’s embrace.
I lose my soul
In the reality of what could be
For the child in me
Never stopped wandering.

I’m not quite sure how this poem comes across. The meaning at the core is how once children grow up, they are subjected to this pre-planned life just because they have grown up. So, in the poem the person is shown exploring the pages of their life that has already been planned out for them but then at the end they choose, to deliberately lose themselves to satiate their inner child’s desire to explore. Thank you for reading! Open to constructive criticism and feedback as always!

  1. Hmmm this was really interesting D! Your explanation at the end helped me to understand it better – I can see now especially in the last few lines that’s what you meant by the poem. The first half of it or so (before reading the end), I was picturing someone getting lost in their writing literally, finding themselves drifting away on their ideas and wonderings. I’m not someone who reads writing like this much, so I don’t have a very keen eye for spotting metaphors and things like that lol! So I enjoyed reading this 😀 ❤ also the featured image is soooo cool!

  2. This is the post of great interest to me because I wrote once a series of articles ‘How to bring up children successfully’.It became very much read and discussed, with me being invited to the Woman of The Year Luncheon, and to be a guest speaker at various prestigious events. Why am I telling you all this? Because I passionately believe that you should be happy and confident that you are going in the right direction and that you will achieve your aims and have a wonderful life. Your poem on its own is excellent but, yes, pensive, as if it was written by an old person looking back on the unfulfilled life.
And that is not you, D, because with your remarkable intellect you will, I have no doubts, follow the greats.

  3. Wow! This is so great! Usually I am not one to skimp on constructive criticism, but after rereading this several times, I can’t find a problem with it, grammatically or metaphorically. Good job! I really liked this one!

    For the child in me
This is my FAV! They’re literally two lines with such meanings. Since I feel…BEEG. I’m getting scared too you know? I still want the child in me, well the child in everyone to erupt and never die down. Even when I’m all grey and Good Ol’ Srisha I’d stil want to have the child in me. I love how you’re sixteen but still always remember to remember (bruh wut) the child inside of you.

This poem, I really like it. Well I like all of your poems but yeah.
Inner child’s desire to explore – This is one of the reasons why I love you because you decide to go all out. I’ll make sure to remember this. You know, we can either chose the path that’s made for us or create our own. Was that a line in Enola Holmes? Maybe it was but I really like that line. No cap. Anyway, I really love it so keep the poems going and I’ll keep my feedbacks and comments going as well. xxxxxxxoooooooxxxx ex oh ex oh.😘(🍕) I just wanted that, don’t mind me.

I loved the end and I completely agree, I love to pre-plan things, but at the end a part of me always ends up doing something else and exploring a new domain in the end……….

Don’t we all? I’m sure Good Ol’ Srisha will be an inspiration even when she’s all grey😂💕
Aw.. thank you! I’ll continue to remember to remember 😂
Glad you liked the poem! Yes, we can!! You’re too kind, I love you too!! I think it’s better to choose the path made for us but follow it through the turns we make. Enola would be my sister, figuratively 😂
Thank you so very much, Srisha!! These words mean a lot to me and I absolutely loved this wonderful comment!! ❤️

You didn’t have to explain the poem; there will be as many interpretations as their are readers. I liked the “standing on the threshold” or “beginnings of something” aspect. I thought of my students just beginning their careers and their “working lives.”

  34. D, There is a line from an old song sung by folk singer Joanie Mitchell,”His dreams have lost some grandeur coming true.” I was always intrigued by that concept, and have found it to be true of most of the dreams I have had in my life. 🙂 Your lovely poem reminded me of that song. I think opting for dreams rather than the expectations of othere is usually the most satisfying course of action, even if things don’t turn out exactly as we planned. All the best! Cheryl ❤

  39. Wow, that’s such a deep line. Almost as if saying that an idea loses it’s novelty once it’s implemented everywhere.
I’m so happy you could relate it. I definitely agree. Maybe if we do it just right, our dreams could set standards for the future’s expectations.
Thank you for taking the time to read and write such a wonderfully thought provoking comment! ❤️

  40. We often choose the opposite of what our parents have planned for us. I did and now I’m watching my sons do the exact same thing. Very interesting poem!

Lovely poem. Beautifully written and explained. Many years ago i found myself lost in that “realm of uncertainty and dread one never ventures into.” You know what I did? Much to the disgust of my father, I ventured in. Have courage to take the path less traveled. It’s an incredible journey. Keep up the writing and see where it takes you.

  44. I love the theme of this one. It seems like life is indeed determined for us growing up, but the challenge is carving our own path like you said, because this is what life is about! Maybe that is how we come into adulthood, when we see that we are in charge and we can do everything!

    Liked by 1 person

  45. Thank you!
That’s a great way to summarize the theme! But I think it’s mostly the adults who prefer sticking to the pre-determined path more than children.

It’s so true, especially where you say even though people try hard to follow the pre planned paths because its claimed to be “the best for them”, somewhere at some point they choose what they want subconsciously. ❤❤
